The Plains Aged Care Facility Inner Courtyard |
The Plains Retirement Village is conveniently situated in the southern suburb of Eight Mile Plains.
The name “The Plains” derives from the suburb name. Also, as a topographical feature, “plains” evoke images of what we want The Plains to be for our residents – relaxed, accommodating, spacious and fruitful.
Residential Aged Care Facility (104 beds including 3 Respite places)
The Plains aged care facility has 96 resident rooms, all ensuited, with eight being double rooms. Each House has its own kitchen, dining room, lounge, family room and activities space. Upper floor houses have balconies where residents may relax, enjoy the view, or watch the comings and goings. Ground floor Houses have their own spacious courtyards with gazebos and extensive landscaping.
The village is blessed with an abundance of indoors and outdoors spaces for residents’ and relatives’ enjoyment. These include quiet rooms, library, community hall, central courtyard, town square, swimming pool, barbeque pavilion, pond area with gazebo, and residents’ workshop.
The Plains is a little different from some other aged care facilities, in that it operates on a ‘house’ (or ‘lifestyle’) model of care as opposed to a ‘medical’ model. This means that resident areas are as home-like as possible, with no effort spared to avoid the institutional or hospital-like environments that characterise, or used to characterise, the traditional aged care facility. This difference is deeper than the physical fabric (which certainly does look and feel eminently home-like at The Plains). Care is driven by residents’ needs and preferences, not routines.

The Plains Stage 2A Units |
Stage 1, with its 28 x two- and three-bedroom (or two-bedroom plus study) units, was completed in mid-2004.
Stage 2A, comprising 30 x three-bedroom (or two-bedroom plus study) units was completed in September 2008.
All Stage 1 and Stage 2A units are of the detached/ duplex type, and are spacious, stylish and professionally landscaped.
Another 16 x three-bedroom (or two-bedroom plus study) units, comprising Stage 2B – the final stage of The Plains Retirement Village - are housed in a two-storey block with basement parking. Full lift access to the eight units on each level (and to the basement parking), electronic security, quality fittings (including European kitchen appliances), full air-conditioning, multi-room access to the spacious balconies (complete with adjustable sliding shutters), contribute to the “boutique” feel of this accommodation.
The Plains is a very attractive living environment, and is endowed with the following amenities:
-
Pool with spa nook
- Barbecue pavilion
- Children’s playground
- Library
- Hairdressing salon
- Residents’ workshop
- 300-seat Community Hall
The security of access to higher levels of care (because of the co-located aged care facility) is another drawcard.
Serviced Apartments (24)
Completed mid-2006, these air-conditioned, one-bedroom apartments fill the gap between independent living and aged care. Consisting of double-bedroom, living/ dining area, kitchenette, ensuite bathroom and spacious balcony/ patio, Serviced Apartments are designed for a lifestyle of “independence without the chores”.
Three meals per day, flat-linen laundry and apartment cleaning are provided.
The serviced apartments complex is spacious, functional and stylish, with full access to village amenities. If and when care needs increase, there is comfort in the knowledge that aged care services are available on site. |
